My Winter Oats

My sweet tooth almost won this morning. I’ve been trying to kick this holiday sugar addiction but this extra chilly weather had me running to something warm and filling this morning.

It also helps to mention that these oats are one of Hudsons most requested breakfast choices. A small bowl also makes an awesome pre-workout meal.

Simple ingredients, no sugar added, unless you have some extra maple syrup lying around. These oats are quick to assemble and oh so satisfying!

Ingredients

Makes 3 servings

  • 2 or 3 apples I used just what I had left which was 1 empire and 1 honey crisp.
  • 1 tbls butter or fat of your choice
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1 tsp of cinnamon
  • 1 cup of quick oats divide between 3 bowls
  • Water- I like my oats made with lots of water. So personal preference matters here.

Directions

Place apples in a small pot with cinnamon, butter and water. Cook over medium heat until apples are tender. About 6 minutes.

Meanwhile, cook oats in separate bowls in the microwave or in one pot on the stove. If you’re in a rush the microwave is the best choice but I personally prefer stove top. Follow the instructions on your bag of oats for best results.

Once oats and apples are ready to start your assembly!

I like to put my oats in first so I can make it all pretty! I then top with the apples, some walnuts, chia seeds, ground flax, drizzle with remaining cinnamon butter mixture from the pot, and usually maple syrup but I skipped it this morning due to trying to control my raging sweet tooth.

Enjoy!
